How To Copy-Protect Ebooks
If you're trying to sell ebooks online, you've probably wondered how you can copy-protect your ebooks. Afterall, what's the point of selling one ebook and having that customer simply pass-along or forward your ebook to everyone else, right? Here are some things to remember: 1. Your customers are generally honest people. Therefore, you will be better off focusing on producing even more ebooks than on wracking your brains trying to copy-protect your work. 2. PDFs are generally easy to pass-along, while .EXE (or HTML-compiled) ebooks are easier to "protect." 3. Be prepared to provide even more customer care or customer support, particularly for those who forget their ebook password. So, if you want to protect your ebooks, the usual approach is to package them as .exe software. Whether the content is in the form of a PDF file or a series of HTML webpages, all of those will be sort of compressed into a single .exe file. The different ebook compilers will either require the presence of Internet Explorer in your customer's hard disk, or not. Usually, if IE is required, you'll be able to add multimedia content inside your ebook. Anyway, you'll find below links to a number of websites that allow you to produce copy-protected ebooks.
